My 30 in 30 Painting 3 Day 6

ICY BRAGG CREEK 12x12 Oil on Panel, Plein Air - unfinished

OK, so I'm only 4 days behind. This was mid afternoon, south of Bragg Creek (Alberta) - yes, where Brad and Angelina have a "little place." The sun was behind thick clouds most of the day. It was COLD! I set up hoping that the sun would burst out from under the clouds in the clear strip above the tree tops before setting - and it did - right as I was driving my frozen-to-the-marrow bones home! Standing next to an icy river, no sun all day and a light breeze  makes - 10 C feel like - 200 C!
Again, the color is wrong because of the camera, but I like this painting. I don't want to do too much more to it. It just looks cold! I don't want to loose that.

Today my wife gave me a pair of "under gloves" to try for my next plein air excursion. I'm already wearing a pair of regular socks under my arctic socks with thick, felt-lined boots, so I don't know what more to do to stop my toes from freezing. Some would say "simple, stop painting outside in the winter." I can't! It's too beautiful and I'm addicted! Maybe I should get me a little portable coal stove and stand right against it.
I'll try the glove undies first.

NESTLED IN FOR WINTER 12x12 Oil on Linen. 1/2 plein air 1/2 studio - unfinished

I've decided to post every one of the paintings I'm doing for the 30 in 30 days challenge whether I'm happy with them, whether they are disasters, unfinished or whatever. I think it will help keep me accountable

I started this painting late afternoon west of the hamlet of Water Valley (Alberta). I took a random side road into the foothills and followed it to its end - and there was this beautiful little "stead." The high hill to my right made the sun "set" early and the temperature drop. Candy, my little four legged companion did not hesitate for half a second when I offered that she get into the car. Even with her little sheepskin coat, she was shivering.

I reset my camera settings the other day so am struggling to get accurate colors. It throws everything off. The sky is a much nicer peachy yellow and the snow much less blue etc.

Amy and Candy Skating
Plein Air Oil on Linen 11x14

I'm a bit late getting going on my 30 paintings in 30 days challenge put out by Leslie Saeta who hosts the weekly blog-radio art show Artists Helping Artists. I'm not even sure I'll be able to do this for the next 27 days, but I'll try.
It was late afternoon. Amy wanted to go skating. She wanted me to go with her and I needed to paint so we compromised. She and Candy skated and I painted them.
